Proper desk setup for computer work
Comfortably, healthily, and without back pain during everyday computer work.
Just as important as workstation ergonomics is its proper placement in the room. The desk should be positioned sideways to the window—daylight should come from the left for right-handed users and from the right for left-handed users. This helps reduce shadows on the desktop and glare on the screen.
It is worth ensuring enough free space around the desk and placing it in a calm, well-ventilated part of the room. Separating the work area from the relaxation zone helps maintain focus and makes it easier to keep a healthy balance between work and recovery.
A desk that is too high forces the shoulders to lift, leading to tension in the shoulders. A desk that is too low encourages slouching and excessive strain on the lower back. To maintain proper posture, elbows should rest at the desk edge at a right angle, and wrists should remain in line with the forearms. This setup allows for comfortable, tension-free work.
Electric height-adjustable desks make it easy to perfectly match the desktop to your height and allow you to switch from sitting to standing, reducing strain on the spine and increasing work comfort.
The monitor should be positioned directly in front of the user, at a distance of about 50–100 cm. The top edge of the screen should be at eye level or slightly below, so that the gaze is directed slightly downward at an angle of 10–30°. This setup relieves the cervical spine and reduces eye strain during prolonged work.
Keyboard and mouse positioning
The keyboard should be positioned at elbow height, without the need to lift the wrists. Ideally, it should be flat or slightly tilted toward the user. The mouse should be placed right next to the keyboard at the same level to minimize reaching to the side and reduce wrist strain.
If the desk top is too high, it is worth considering height adjustment. Models with an electric frame from KRL gaming art allow smooth height adjustment in the range of 60–125 cm, making it possible to perfectly adapt the workstation to the user.
An appropriate chair is just as important as the desk. Feet should rest flat on the floor or on a footrest, and the angle between the thighs and torso should be about 90–100°. The backrest should support the natural curve of the lower back, while the armrests should gently support the elbows without lifting the shoulders.
For fixed-height desks—such as the Loft, Cuby, Fury, Combat, or Blade models from KRL gaming art (approx. 73 cm)—the optimal seat height is usually 41–53 cm, depending on the user’s height.
To prevent fatigue, it is worth taking short 1–2-minute breaks every 30 minutes. Simply standing up, stretching your shoulders and taking your eyes off the screen is a simple yet very effective way to protect your spine and eyesight. Proper room lighting is equally important: evenly diffused light minimizes shadows and glare, further protecting your eyes.
Ergonomics that works for you
A properly organized workstation combines the right desk height, correct monitor positioning, ergonomic placement of the keyboard and mouse, and a well-adjusted chair. Following these principles significantly reduces the risk of back, neck, and wrist pain while increasing comfort and work efficiency.
By choosing KRL gaming art solutions, you gain the confidence that every element of your workstation has been designed with ergonomics, comfort, and durability in mind.
